Little River, Canterbury, 36 miles south by rail from Christchurch, near Lake Forsyth. Cocksfoot seed growing, seed cleaning and cheese factory.
Named from the small river running here, Wairewa (Little river) being the Maori name. In 1829 James Price, a Sydney sailor, visited here, and stated afterwards that he had purchased the district from the natives.
